Graduate Medical education (GME) and postgraduate year (PGY) elective rotation Programs
Program Overview
PACE MD’s MED-Spanish Graduate Medical Education/Postgraduate Year (GME/PGY) Elective Rotation program is one of the very few, if not the only, clinically-based, total-immersion medical Spanish programs available.
Including both theoretical and practical language training, the program serves to maintain, develop and/or increase your Spanish knowledge in the medical context. Improve your cultural literacy and work with diverse colleagues while observing how medicine is practiced in an international setting.
Participant profile: PGY 2, 3 and 4.
Dates: Year-round.*
Arrival date: Preferably on Fridays / Saturdays
Program duration: 4 weeks.
Application deadline: One month prior to Arrival Date.
Program cost: $2,750 USD (one-on-one instruction add $200 USD).
*Programs are not available between Dec. 20 and Jan. 3
Spanish Instruction
Group size: individualized instruction with one to three students per instructor. 1-on-1 instruction is available for an additional $200 USD fee.
Hours: Minimum 2 hours of Spanish lessons a day. Additional 1-on-1 instruction available for $200 USD.
Levels: Beginner and Intermediate.

Clinical experiences* are meant to provide participants with greater knowledge of the Mexican health care system and opportunities to practice Spanish in a clinical setting.
*IMPORTANT NOTICE: Placements are contingent upon Availability, the participant’s Spanish-speaking level, Academic degree, Professional experience and Program duration.
All deployments are subject to the discretion of MED-Spanish and its medical director. Practitioners licensed in the US are reminded that they are not legally permitted to practice medicine in Mexico.
Hours: 3 to 5 hours per day.
Available placements: Ambulatory Care, Mobile Health Unit, Out-Patient Clinic. Our local hospital venue is reserved for MD’s only and always considering the IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOVE.
Elective Credit
Participants seeking elective credit from their medical/profession school for the MED-Spanish program are required to obtain pre-approval from their program director, dean of students or corresponding authority prior to the program. All necessary paperwork and/or requirements must be shared with MED-Spanish in a timely manner to assure accommodations can be made. PACE MD’s MED-Spanish is NOT RESPONSIBLE if participants are denied elective credit for the program.
