PACE MD’s MedSpanish Pre-Professional Summer Elective program is a four-week experience designed for pre-med, recent graduates or career shifters interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. Come face-to-face with global health through this total-immersion, pre-clinical program. Study medical Spanish through individualized instruction, complete first responder training courses and participate in physician-supervised clinical rotations. Learn how to take vitals, perform basic patient assessments, obtain medical histories and assist in the care and management of emergent and non-emergent, medical and trauma patients.

Clinical experiences are meant to provide participants with greater knowledge of the Mexican health care system and opportunities to practice Spanish in a clinical setting. Placements are contingent upon availability, the participant’s Spanish-speaking ability, professional experience and program duration. All placements are subject to the discretion of MedSpanish and the medical director. Practitioners licensed in the US are reminded that they are not legally permitted to practice medicine in Mexico. 

  • Hours: 3 to 5 hours/day

  • Available placements: Ambulatory Care, Mobile Health Unit, Out-Patient Clinic
